Ok so i guess it has been a very long time since i last posted. Lots of stuff has happened and lots of food has been cooked since the last time i posted. I guess when i went back home for winter i kinda got lazy and stopped posting. That doesn’t mean i stopped cooking! And it doesn’t mean i stopped taking pictures of my cooking! (Well i’ve only taken pictures of a handful of them) I hope to put them all up eventually when i get back to posting!
So i guess i’ll say what i did over winter break. I went to the Philippines, Hong Kong and China. I started to play golf. I just joined some group lessons offered by umove. I don’t really expect that much out of the lessons except the fundamentals. I’m pretty sure i’m not going to be tiger woods with 6 45-minute group lessons. Truthfully, I didn’t know that golf would be as fun as it is. I actually enjoy going to the driving range and hitting some golf balls. I’m just doing the 6-iron so far. Maybe in time i’ll invest in a half set and start working the courses!
On another note i’m going to start an Ann Arbor message board. I don’t know if anyone will join or post on the message board but i don’t really care. I don’t even know if anyone reads this blog. But i’d like something like sdunderground for ann arbor. Facebook seems to kinda suck at that and only a message board can really do some things like that. O well whatever. Maybe if i build it they will come.
Sooo i couldn’t figure out which one to make. I asked some people what they would like and it seems they like chocolate cake. So i wanted to do the Chocolate Cake with Caramel-Milk Chocolate Frosting but i read the cake portion of the recipe was a real hit and miss. So i went searching for the perfect Chocolate Cake recipe and i found this double chocolate layer cake. Everyone seems to really like the cake that is made from this recipe so i thought i’d mix it with the Caramel-Milk Chocolate Frosting which everyone loves on the other cake. Hopefully this comes out to be the best cake in the world!
Here’s a picture of the Dobule Chocolate Layer Cake!
Today i went to see the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet with a bunch of people from the lab. It was only 2 hours only but it was great. I did though leave one member of the Fobtastic 5 in the office working on the paper sorry Mr Fobtastic. Anyways the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet was actually pretty good and enjoyable. It’s nice that Ann Arbor gets a lot of good concerts every year. I do have to warn people listening that the music was pretty soothing and nice and may put you to sleep but in a good way.
Here is a youtube clip i found of them. This isn’t what they played but this song sounds pretty neat. Enjoy!
I’m gonna pull an all nighter in the office working with my sidekick the angry china man (people may figure out who i’m talking about). I’m writing and analyzing code for an imaginary machine with an imaginary compiler with an imaginary ISA with imaginary hardware. This means yet another night no cooking ;( *cry* Oh well! I think this weekend or friday or something i’m gonna cook me a storm (maybe bake). I’m gonna definitely show the Moelleux au Chocolat (AKA Choco Lava Cake)!!! I’ll do the best sauce and extras to make it suppper good! Maybe I’ll even be lucky enough to make myself some Poached Spiced-Pears With Mascarpone Cream & Caramel Sauce. I’ve had this at Pacific Rim and i love it. I want to make it for myself. Anyways… CRY! O well. I’m listening to SomaFM indie Radio if anyone wants feel like they are in my shoes to be shoutcast listening
I’m up really early today but everyday I wake up and go to the living room and look out my window. There’s so much land in Ann Arbor that almost anywhere you live you can look out your window and see so much nature.
Here are some pictures i took really quick of outside my window. They may look crappy online but really it’s a nice view. Just wait for Winter when it starts to snow and it looks even nicer! You can’t get this in LA or NY! OH YEA and the AIR IS CLEAN HERE! I joke sometimes that my life has been extended 20 years because i’ve lived in Ann Arbor. LA smog is like smoking a pack of cigarettes… ^_^;;;;;
O Yea! On another note i wanted to share an awesome tip i learned with anyone who wants to listen. Basically I bought a wine fridge really cheap recently. I bought it on craigslist and it seemed to be new and it works perfectly. Anyways, well i was doing random reading and thought hey i want my wine fridge to maintain humidity too (most wine fridges below 1.5K don’t). Most fridges keep humidity at around 50% which is suppose to be bad for long term storage of wine (not like i’m really aging wine). But anyways I found on a cigar forum the holy grail of humidity!!! Basically you use Cat Litter crystals which are basically silica beads. They keep humidity at 65-70% constantly. I’ve gotten mine to keep around 65% perfectly and I only water the beads every 1-2 weeks.
Here are the pics of it. The like 10lb container of beads costs like 8 bucks at petsmart. Make sure you buy the right kind else you’ll just be putting cat litter in your fridge. I water my beads using a spray bottle. This trick is because cigars are good at around 65% humidity and they sell “special beads” that control humidity. Someone figured the same beads are in cat litter so why not. 65% humidity is great for wine too!
Almost forgot!!! You have to use distilled water or else the silica beads will clog up and you’ll have to use new ones!!!
